Deutsch: In der Hauptsatzung steht diese Blasonierung:„Das Wappen zeigt auf viergeteiltem Schild oben links auf gelbem Grund zwei rote Balken, oben rechts auf grauem Grund eine in roten Ziegeln aufgeführte Kirche mit drei Türmen, unten links: auf rotem Grund einen silbernen Schwanenfittich, der sich aus einer goldenen Krone erhebt und unten rechts auf blauem Grund ein goldenes Kreuz mit rechtsseitiger Schattierung.“ Heraldisch korrekt muss es heißen:„Geviert; 1 in Gold (Gelb) zwei rote Balken; 2 in Silber (Weiß) eine blaubedachte rote Kirche mit drei blau bedachten Türmen, die äußeren mit goldenen (gelben) Knäufen, der mittlere erhöht; 3 in Rot ein aus goldener (gelber) Krone wachsender silberner (weißer) Schwanenfittich, 4 in Blau ein goldenes (gelbes) geschliffenes Nagelspitzkreuz.“

Object history
Deutsch: Das Wappen wurde am 3. Januar 1912 vom Großherzog von Oldenburg verliehen. Die roten Balken und das Nagelspitzkreuz sind dem Oldenburger Landeswappen entnommen, zu dem die Stadt bis 1946 gehörte. Die Kirche erinnert an die Frühzeit der Siedlung, als der Meierhof um 980 von Kaiser Otto II. dem Kloster Memleben geschenkt wurde. Der Schwanenflügel versinnbildlicht die Bedeutung der Federnverwertung und die Krone Lohn und Preis der bürgerlichen Regsamkeit. In der Hauptsatzung wird heraldisch rechts mit heraldisch links verwechselt.
English: The arms were granted on Janaury 3, 1912 by the Duke of Oldenburg. The quarters two and four are derived from the arms of the County of Oldenburg, as the district belonged to Oldenburg from 1803-1946. The second quarter shows a church as a symbol for the local church, which was given to the Memleben monastery in 980 by Emperor Otto II. The third quarter shows a wing for the feather industry in the city, which was of importance in the 19th century, and a crown symbolises the 'pride and price of the local citizens'.
