Summary[edit]

Description
English: This photograph is a view of the famous Timurid era built Goharshad mosque, adjacent to the holy shrine of Imam Reza. The photograph has been taken while facing the Iwan-e-Maqsura (the monumental iwan) and the dome, and minarets. Over the course of centuries the mosque has undergone numerous restorations funded by various rulers. The mosques most recent set of restorations occurred in the 1960's and 70's when under the Pahlavi dynasty, the domes outer shell along with the Eastern and Western iwans were dismantled and rebuilt from iron and concrete. Various inscriptions and mosaic work throughout the mosque were also replaced in that period.
