Summary

[edit]
Description
Deutsch: Kalktuff-Platte, Detail vom Rathaus Hohenstein, Schwäbische Alb.
English: travertine-plate, detail from Hohensteins new town hall. Travertine is a karst product, sedimented in turbulent river sections and behind karst springs). When wet, travertine can easily be sawn. When thoroughly dried, the material is extremely consolidated and weatherproof. The cavities and impurities - remnants of debris and biotic materials - make the plates very decorative and yet porous and thus lightweight.
