Summary[edit]
DescriptionMandapa architectural element of Hindu temples.jpg |
English: Mandapa are pillared halls in Indian architecture. They are found in any place, building, temple grounds or inside temples. They are spaces for pilgrims to rest in (choultry), or waiting areas, or space dedicated to host something (Nandi, Garuda, any vahana, sculpture, friezes, etc). Large mandapa may have attached kitchen, drinking water, water tanks, or other facilities to feed the pilgrims / monks / etc. They are found in Buddhist, Hindu and Jain monuments.
