English: Messier 57 "Ring" Nebula: Gaseous shell (~1 l.y. in diameter) surrounds dead star: a white dwarf (faint star in the center of the nebula). The white dwarf -- a remnant of the star, in fact, dead star's nucleus -- is hot enough to emit powerful ultraviolet radiation. That ultraviolet emission makes surrounding gases to glow.
Українська: Туманість Мессьє 57 "Кільце": Газова оболонка (діаметром близько світлового року), що оточує мертву зірку -- білий карлик (тьмяна щірочка у центрі туманості). Білий карлик -- залишок зірки, фактично ядро мертвої зірки -- достатньо гаряче, щоб випромінювати у ультрафіолетовому діапазоні. Цей ультрафіолет збуджує атоми розсіяної оболонки, за рахунок цього вона сяє різними кольорами. Фотографія отримана за допомогою телескопа-рефлектора діаметром 150мм f/5 на екваторіальному монтуванні з трекінгом і цифрової дзеркальної камери. Київ. The picture was taken using SkyWatcher 150/750 Newtonian on EQ5 mount with motor drives with Canon EOS600D as an imaging camera.
