DescriptionPaleothyris BACKGROUND.JPG |
English: Paleothyris acadiana is one of the oldest known reptiles.[1] It measured about 25-30 cm. (10 inch) long, of which the skull made up 3 cm. (1.5 inch). This restoration is based on information and images by Carrol[1] and from Paleopedia.[2][3][4]
The color and pattern is a guess, inspired from extant species of small lizards. Paleothyris is restored with a millipede prey in its mouth: the holotype fossil was found in association with a fossilized tree, and Carrol found it "probable that Paleothyris fed on small invertebrates, such as the numerous millipedes found in the same upright tree" References |
