Description
English: Silver_denarius_of_Metellus_Scipio_47_46_BCE Silver denarius of Quintus Caecilius Metellus Pius Scipio Nasica, depicting Africa personified, wearing elephant-skin headgear. The stalk of grain (right) and plough (below) represent the African province's importance as a grain-producing region. Inscription reads Q[uintus] METELL[us] / SCIPIO IMP[erator]. The reverse of this coin (not shown) is a standing nude Hercules and EPPIVS – LEG·F·C (Eppius, legate).
