Description
English: The sculpture realized by Christian Burger represents Edward Whymper, the first mountaineer to climb to the top of the bar of the Ecrins (4102 m) June 25, 1864. The steel sculpture, about 6 m high, was inaugurated July 17, 2009, to mark the Centenary of the Bureau des Guides des Ecrins.
Français : L'œuvre du sculpteur Christian Burger représente le britannique Edward Whymper, premier alpiniste à grimper jusqu'au sommet de la barre des Écrins (4102 m) le 25 juin 1864. La sculpture en acier, de près de 6 m de hauteur, a été inaugurée le 17 juillet 2009, à l'occasion du Centenaire du Bureau des Guides des Ecrins.
