USSR 1-ruble coin, released in the USSR on March 2, 1989 to commemorate the 175th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko.
The front of the coin depicts in relief the USSR coat of arms and the words "СССР" ("USSR"), "1 РУБЛЬ" ("1 Ruble") and a number "1989".
The reverse side depicts in relief
- Taras Shevchenko
- his faximile
- his name "Т.Г.ШЕВЧЕНКО" ("T.G.Shevchenko")
- his birth year "1814" and his death year "1861"
On the edge the words "ОДИН РУБЛЬ" ("One Ruble") are engraved twice, separated by dots.
Metal: white copper-nickel alloy.
Weight: 12.8 g.
Diameter: 31 mm.
Width: 2.3 mm.
Painter: A.A.Kolodkin.
Sculptor: A.A.Novichkov.
Mintage: 3 million pieces (Moscow Mint), including 300,000 proof.
