English: Gulf of Taranto, Italy (June 24, 2005) - A diver assigned to the Italian Submarine Parachute Advisory Group (SPAG) jumps out of an EH-101 Shark helicopter to assist Sailors that escaped from their submarine in the Submarine Escape and Immersion Equipment (SEIE) MK-10 suit during the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) submarine escape and rescue exercise Sorbet Royal 2005. Divers from various nations will work together to rescue submariners during the exercise in the Mediterranean. Twenty-seven participating nations, including 14 NATO nations will test their capabilities and interoperability. Four submarines with up to 52 crewmembers aboard will be placed on the bottom of the ocean, while rescue forces with rescue vehicles and systems work together to solve complex disaster rescue problems. Descrizione dell'immagine | GULF OF TARANTO, ITALY (June 24, 2005) -- A diver from the Italian Submarine Parachute Advisory Group (SPAG) jumps out of an EH-101 Shark helicopter to assist Sailors that escaped from their submarine in the SEIE (Submarine Escape and Immersion Equipment) Mk 10 suit during the NATO submarine escape and rescue exercise Sorbet Royal 2005. The SEIE suit allows submariners to do a free ascent from depths down to 180 meters (600 fsw) while providing protection for them when they reach the surface and await rescue. Divers from various nations will work together to rescue the submariners during the exercise in the Mediterranean off the coast of Taranto, Italy from June 17-30, 2005. Sorbet Royal 2005 is the largest and most challenging live submarine escape and rescue exercise ever conducted. Participating nations will test their capabilities and interoperability with 27 participating nations (including 14 NATO nations, Russia, Ukraine and Israel). Four submarines will be placed on the bottom (each with up to 52 men aboard) while rescue forces with a range of sophisticated rescue vehicles and systems work together to solve complex disaster rescue problems in a variety of difficult scenarios.
