Artist[edit]

Metcalfe was of course not the artist! He commissioned the paintings, gathered them in an album, had it bound and wrote the comments and explanations for his daughter in England. According to Dalrymple [1], most of the Delhi Book paintings were done by the Mughal painter, Mazhar Ali Khan. But Metcalfe “sei auch bedankt / er hat sie ihm abverlangt.”
