Synonym

[edit]

@JoJan: The mentioned species in the old Latin format, Actinia anemone is according to the Swedish Wikipedia synonym to Stichodactyla helianthus. You categorized it however under Homostichanthus duerdeni. As I cannot determine which is correct, could you take another look at it, and confirm the category is indeed correct and perhaps Swedish Wikipedia needs adapting? Thanks! This is a somewhat complicated matter. The species "Actinia anemone" Ellis, 1768 (1767) has been described twice, relating to different species. The first homonym has gone through a whole series of synonyms to the name Homostichanthus duerdeni Carlgren, 1900 and finally to the name Stychodactyla duerdeni (Carlgren, 1900). Hexacorallians of the World : Actinia anemone". The second homonym "Actinia anemone" Ellis 1768 (1767) is a questionable synonym. This, in turn, has gone through a whole series of synonyms to end up with the accepted name Stichodactyla helianthus (Ellis, 1768) Hexacorallians of the World: Stichodactyla helianthus (Ellis, 1768) . In 2015, The World Register of Marine Species, a database with the best marine experts in the world, therefore only accepted Homostichanthus duerdeni Carlgren, 1900 as the valid accepted name for "Actinia anemone" Ellis, 1768 (1767) The World Register of Marine Species: Homostichanthus duerdeni. In the en.wikipedia we rely on The World Register of Marine Species for an accurate taxonomy. JoJan (talk) 15:44, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
