Firefox compatibility[edit]

This image was modified to run at normal speeds on Firefox. It has been constantly reverted numerous times after that. What exactly is the problem? NerdyScienceDude (✉ messagechanges) 13:46, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Am I the only one seeing errors (irregular black chunks) in the transparency of this image when not shown at the original resolution? The last 5 versions in the History of the image seem to be broken.--Jeffro77 (talk) 05:32, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
screenshot as of 2011-03-19, showing funny thumbnail versions
Well, I can confirm these "irregular black chunks", see the adjacent screenshot. Right now thumbs seem broken for the last 7 file versions (and also for the first 2 versions from 2006, but those appear just stuck/not moving).
Full images are displayed correctly in all versions afaics (some move a bit faster than others, though). --:bdk: 19:37, 19 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I originally came here because I saw the image on a Wikipedia User page with the 'black chunks', so it's not only happening in the image history here. It seems to happen when it's not shown at its original size. I tried reverting to an earlier version here, but the image didn't change. Does reverting only change the description page and not the image itself??--Jeffro77 (talk) 04:23, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Only happens when scaled smaller than original size:
80px:  160px (original size):  200px:
Anomaly is not specific to Firefox. Also tested in IE9 and Safari 5.--Jeffro77 (talk) 04:40, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yup, I can confirm (in Chrome) the flashing black chunks that appear in all thumbnail versions except for the first and current versions. - M0rphzone (talk) 07:41, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Update, now all thumbnails are showing up correctly, albeit with a jerky animation. - M0rphzone (talk) 05:00, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Silly edit war[edit]

Okay, the reversion propensity for this image is just silly. This image, for some insane reason, is being used on many thousands of pages on Wikimedia. It should probably be protected from non-sysop uploads and reversions (but not editing) indefinitely. -Splarka (talk) 07:17, 16 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I've put in a request on the admin noticeboard. - M0rphzone (talk) 05:00, 2 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why is it being used at all? I can understand the creation, I think it's kinda cute (reminds me of the Amiga's Boing Ball), but really, we need to waste CPU cycles on this? OtterSmith (talk) 04:18, 30 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
