Newer logo image

[edit]

I've reverted the recent edit that replaced this with a newer logo image, since this image is used in w:Template:Sky, and thus appears in numerous Wikipedia articles unrelated to Celestia. The new image can now be found at File:Celestia-logo-new.png. SevenSpheresCelestia (talk) 01:01, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wouldn't it be better then to just change the template which is using this file off-label instead of changing every article on Celestia? --Bachsau (talk) 02:20, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Since this image has always been intended for use as the logo of Celestia, I have forked it at File:Jupiter and moon.png so that unrelated astronomy projects can use the image as well. Jonesey95 (talk) 16:16, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This logo was being used incorrectly in over 50 translations of Template:Sky in wikis in multiple languages. I have fixed almost all of them. Some of the templates are protected, so edit requests will have to be submitted. After a couple of days, the job queue should be done updating Special:GlobalUsage/Celestia.png, so you will be able to see where this logo is still being used incorrectly. Edit requests should ask for "Celestia.png" to be replaced with "Jupiter and moon.png" in the template's code. Jonesey95 (talk) 16:47, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have managed to get most of the templates and other pages fixed. I am waiting on edit requests on zh.WP and fa.WP, and waiting on the job queue to clear out ar.WP and fr.WP, among others. I expect that in a week or two, we will be down to under 1,000 pages using this logo, most of them doing so intentionally, and the other 134,000 or so pages using the newly created file showing Jupiter and a moon. Logo replaced

[edit]

If you have arrived here from a Wikipedia project, here is the summary: you should replace File:Celestia.png with File:Jupiter and moon.png for all astronomy-related uses. The only exception is where the Celestia.png image is being used as a logo for the en:Celestia software program.

The history is that this file was originally uploaded for use as a logo for the en:Celestia software program, but because it was a picture of the planet Jupiter, it was accidentally adopted for use in astronomy templates and portals. Jonesey95 (talk) 02:28, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
