Clavius or Guldin[edit]

This image is the same as Paul Guldin, who is not Christopher Clavius! Is Paul Guldin! Can someone verify this?--Ferran Mir (talk) 18:50, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know... it's not exactly the same picture and portraits were always very conventional: they are people in the same era doing the same things and both jesuits, it's not so surprising that they have very similar portraits. Also, the source provided does say CLAVIUS.
To confirm your suspicions we'd need an expert in symbolism of that century: this portait has many more books, a ruler and a sort of "flag" or romboidal item in the ink pot, plus some other differences; are these compatible with Clavius, or do they point to another personality? I have no idea, sorry. --Nemo 18:12, 15 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
