I see a lot of vandalism related to a request for speedy deletion. I don't know to what other image of Commons seems related this picture, but I have done a digital photo from a picture on a book about "Italian Somalia" edited in 1939. This book is over 70 years old, so there it is no copyright.--LupusFido (talk) 22:09, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Now that the file has been tagged "KEPT", allow me to pinpoint that user:MiddayExpress was adding wrong data (in the failed request for speedy deletion) about the Dubats. The photo is taken from a book related to the Dubats of Somalia: they dress in a typical way that no Eritrean Ascari uses. Please read here (if needed with google translator from Italian, or if requested I personally can translate in English): http:/miles.forumcommunity.net/?t=9361609
The French website (http://www.histoquiz-contemporain.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=3009&view=next) cited by MiddayExpress is a bit superficial and makes some mistakes, like the unbelievable error of confusing Eritreans for Somalians.
However, here it is a little translation about their dress: "La tipica divisa oltre al turbante bianco, e la futa dello stesso colore, il loro look inconfondibile e affascinante. Armi... il billao, il loro pugnale a lama piatta a due fili./ The typical uniform was the white turbant (hat) and the "futa" (pant) of the same color, their look unique and astonishing. Their arms were (guns) and the "billao", their knife flat with 2 sides.
Here it is another "model" about the unique dress of the Somalian Dubats: http://www.modellismopiu.it/modules/newbb_plus/viewtopic.php?topic_id=116073&forum=6 As everybody can see, it is impossible to confuse a Somalian Dubat with an Eritrean Ascari! And this shows how unreliable are many writings, like the one in the French reference cited by MiddayExpress. Sincerely, --LupusFido (talk) 02:42, 9 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
