This Russian cruise missile submarine is being dismantled as part of the Nunn-Lugar/Cooperative Threat Reduction Program[edit]

I want to remove this phrase, because it has no source, and even name of submarine is unknown. --Rave (talk) 17:17, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

What you have written is completely wrong: the source of the image is properly stated and there you can find the original image description. Please don't take it personally, I believe more in this reliable source than your personal thoughts. Thanks for helping. --High Contrast (talk) 17:22, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for answer, i'm sorry for my mistake. I could suggest, that submarine at photo is K-525 Arkhangelsk or K-206 Murmansk of Oscar-I class. These 2 ships were scrapped first, but they both were decommissioned only in 1997 year, and date of photo is 1996. So, it might be not Oscar sub, or not 196 year. I confused. --Rave (talk) 17:30, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, if you have reliable sources for this what you have written, feel free to write it on the image descrption page as an "image note". This is applied widely on Commons especially if the source gives wrong or incomplete information. --High Contrast (talk) 17:33, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And curvature of external body is very big, so it seems, that submarine was smaller, than Oscar-class ships. See File:Soviet Oscar Class submarine.JPEG for example. And i don't think that its a tail section on photo - Oscars have twin tail of other shape. I'll try to find another sources and explanations for this picture. --Rave (talk) 17:34, 3 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I share your opinion and obviously you have deeper knowledge about russian/soviet submarines. But here on Commons - as on Wikipedia - we do not follow opinions but facts. So it is quite pointless when we discuss about things we do not know at 100 %. But if you have reliable and valid sources, a notice under the image would be apropriate. --High Contrast (talk) 18:23, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, i won't use my opinion as a source for my edits, but i was surprised, when i saw, that Oscar class submarine is called "ballistic missile". And hearing about "Threat Reduction Program" is also strange, because submarines of Oscar-I class were scrapped with financial help from Norway and United Kingdom, while such submarines threaten only for US CVN's. But this is also only my opinion. I'll add sources as fast, as i get them. --Rave (talk) 20:36, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This is just speculation, but I think this is a part of the tail section from a Oscar-class submarine. The section is laying starbord or port side down. The upper large-radius strake is the pressure-hull and the lower smaller-radius strake is the form-hull. The large pipe just above the pressure-hull is the propeller-shaft housing. /Esquilo (talk) 11:42, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
