Design of the flag[edit]

Here is a description of the flag's design in Russian.

«В 1914 году особым циркуляром министерства иностранных дел был введён "для употребления в частном быту" новый национальный бело-сине-красный флаг с добавленным в верхней части у древка жёлтым квадратом с чёрным двуглавым орлом (композиция, соответствующая дворцовому штандарту императора); орёл изображался без титульных гербов на крыльях; квадрат перекрывал белую и около четверти синей полосы флага.»

And translation into English.

«In 1914 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Empire published a special circular about an additional imperial flag «for the private use». It differed from the state flag of the Empire — it had a yellow canton with a black double-headed eagle (just like on the Emperor's Flag). The eagle was depicted without coats of arms on its wings. Yellow square covered the white stripe and about a quarter of the blue stripe of the flag.»

I think that caption might be incorrect. It's right next to an illustration that shows the canton taking up the whole blue stripe: [1]. Do you have any other sources that back up this version of the flag? I'm having difficult finding any. Orange Tuesday (talk) 23:41, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay so I just found an image of a physical flag from this era, and the canton takes up all of the top two stripes. [2]. Based on this image, the image in the earlier source, and the fact that I can't find an image of the small-canton version anywhere outside wikipedia, I'm uploading a new version of the flag. I'm sorry, but your evidence looks a little bit ridiculous. Some guy long time ago, in 1914 perhaps, made a false flag, not according to the circular of the Ministry. So what? Is this makes the false flag an official one? — Radziun (talk) 17:59, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
