Colours[edit]

I've changed the colours to reflect that of the 2017 standard, which is the only one supported by a reliable source. The 2017 standard was arrived at by consulting various specimens of historical flags from the early 20th century, and is the most reflective of actual usage during 1917–2017.[1] The version with the extremely bright red could not have existed physically, and was likely randomly chosen from an RGB picker without much actual consideration. See en:Talk:Flag of Thailand for details. --Paul_012 (talk) 11:30, 4 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

COM:OVERWRITE does not prohibit updating this file with a more accurate version, since this image falls in the same category as "Files with current data". It is expected to be the most accurate version of the image, as called by flag templates on Wikipedia, so edits, even if significant, should be uploaded under the same name. --Paul_012 (talk) 12:02, 10 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Illegitimate Barrister, thanks for adding the source data to the file description. The link is dead, but I remember that it pointed to a document produced by the National Identity Office. If I remember correctly, the document was an instruction manual which had no legal bearing, and did not purport to prescribe official colour values of any kind; it was simply followed as a temporary measure, due to lack of a better source, while the official colours were being drafted. It would still be inaccurate to claim that that image represented the official flag colours from 2011 to 2017. In fact, another document, also produced by the same government body, actually shows the flag in a different set of colours.[2] I think the inconsistency is enough evidence to conclude that these documents cannot be regarded as reliable sources for colour values; my original argument still stands. --Paul_012 (talk) 14:59, 11 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
