Authentic?

[edit]

What evidence is there, if any, that this image is authentic? Couldn't this just be somebody's personal drawing that is (falsely?) alleged to be a royal coat of arms? Don't we need a source, or is good faith enough for a drawing like this to spead all over Wikimedia projects? SergeWoodzing (talk) 01:08, 12 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently files uploaded to the Commons don't need sources. It's crazy. I've come across more than a few fake coats of arms on here. So if you intend to use any image for a Wikipedia article you should take caution before using an image you aren't absolutely sure of. But as for this image - it's legit. It's one of the shields drawn by Matthew Paris in the mid 13th century.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 09:26, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, especially for adding the artist's name! SergeWoodzing (talk) 12:53, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm back, and I'd still like to know where this image was published, showing us that it pertains to King Hacon IV. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 22:31, 23 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
It should be noted on page 455 of The Art of Matthew Paris in Chronica Majora available on Google Books. It should also be noted on page 72 of Rolls of Arms: Henry III on Google Books. It is pictured on the cover of The Norwegian Domination and the Norse World c. 1100–c. 1400 on Google Books. The latter's introductory chapter notes it on page 13.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 00:57, 9 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Good job at last. Worth waiting for. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 09:05, 9 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
