Licensing

[edit]

This image is not usable under the GFDL unless accompanied by a plaintext version of the program listing. This is because of the GFDL's requirements for a Transparent version, and its condition that "An image format is not Transparent if used for any substantial amount of text." I am therefore going to remove the GFDL template, although the Creative Commons template will still remain. Given the author's clear intention to permit licensing under the GFDL, I think it's fair for any user to re-add the GFDL template in future if a plaintext listing is added to the image description page. • Sorry, I don't understand. What does this mean in English? I've read the GFDL, and make little sense of this part. Besides, they do not seem to give a workaround. What I understand, (and correct me if I'm wrong) is: "If an (otherwise Transparent) image contains a substantial amount of text, then it will be considered Opaque, unless a Transparent version of the text accompanies it". — Isilanes (talk) 11:00, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi, many thanks for providing the plain-text version, that's great. What it says is that if the image contains substantial text, then it is Opaque. Having the accompanying text still does not make the image Transparent in itself, but rather the text is the Transparent version which must be provided (or at least pointed to) when distributing Opaque copies under the GFDL.
