National Portrait Gallery have no claim of copyright over this picture[edit]

The image is clearly of a w:Carte de visite which was published by the London Stereoscopic & Photographic Company. The copyright would have expired 70 years after the demise of the publishers, which would likely have been before the turn of the 20th century. Once an image is copyright expired, no new copyright can be created by making a copy of said image. Therefore, this image is in the public domain.
