Reasons for not striking caption

Caption cannot be removed without loss of important historical information as to where the photograph was taken and the variability of the sea conditions at the scene of the wreck. The caption is directly on the original negative and not added later by an archivist, there are many photographs like this which cannot have captions removed without substantial degradation of the image value, which is this case is high as over 343 people were killed in this shipwreck. Because the captions are placed over images of sea conditions for example which are important to an understanding of the reasons why the people were not taken off the vessel, to removal captions on all of the self-captioned images taken by the photographer of this wreck would be a major loss of historical information.Mtsmallwood (talk) 16:32, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
