This image does not illustrate the DSC effect very well at all. The animation loop is too quick to be able to see detail, and the actual data displayed is confusing and unclear. The plotted data seems to suggest that sound waves travel back and forth between the surface and 4km depth, which is not the case. Inside the deep sound channel, the sound waves are "trapped" in a certain layer, preventing them from going towards the surface or bottom.

Hopefully someone can make a better graphic that depicts this. In the meantime, I am going to propose removing this from the SOFAR channel wikipedia page. MrAureliusR (talk) 03:28, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
