Is my computer slow, or is the light beam slow? The Moon is just over a light-second away, but the animated beam of light takes a little over three seconds to reach the Moon. --Carnildo 21:57, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The light is highspeed and the file is also correct. The problem is usually, that the browser is not quickly enough. Any frame of the GIF - exept the first and last - takes only 0.040 second, that are 25 frames in one second. if you'll download the GIF and run it offline with a well tool (e.g. IrfanView at http://www.irfanview.net ), you shoudt see the correct velocity. If you have a Software to convert animated GIF into a video format, it woudt be nice to do so. This GIF is a nice test for browsers. Try Mozilla Firefox 2.0 for viewing. Turn it off[edit]

There should be a switch to turn it off. This is really irritating when you are trying to read the article. And the speed should be right for the average browser, not just the later top of the range machines. 82.10.79.163 23:25, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]


There is a 4k file from Itsmine (and I believe it was reverted by Stannered but reverted again). The current file is 84k and takes over 3 seconds to play in both IE7 and Firefox 2 on a Pentium 4 2.99 running XP, it is more accurate to the 1.28 seconds with the original file, do we really need more frames for this animation?

New version[edit]

I've modified my original. For the 19 frames, I've changed the display time, as follows:

  • Frame 1: 0.04 s
  • Frame 2: 0.05 s
  • Frame 3-4: 0.06 s
  • Frame 5-19: 0.07 s

Which results in a total display time of 1.26 sec., which is close to the real travel time of 1.255185 sec. (surface of Earth to surface of Moon, all average distances). Cantus (talk) 13:27, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
