Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 - Sept. 15^th - 30^th

Documenting the Igbo Monuments & historic sites for Posterity!

Wiki Loves Monuments is an international photographic competition to promote historic sites around the World through Wikimedia projects (mainly Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons). Everybody can participate.

For the first time, the Igbo Community is participating as a User Group in the Wiki Loves Monuments 2023 Photo Contest. In line with the campaign, the IWUG invites all her members to participate by going into their various communities and capturing the historic sites and monuments and upload on the Wiki Commons Page for documentation and preservation. The upload session starts 15th to 30th September, 2023. Find below detailed information for participation.

Find a monument, take a photo and upload it to Wikimedia Commons:

Find monuments/historical sites in your community

There are quite a good number of cultural heritage monuments in Nigeria. Check the list of declared monuments in Nigeria here!

Take photos

Snap as many and as good photos as you can, try different perspectives. Even if the photo doesn't win you a prize, it may help Wikipedia!

Describe them

Write down what you photographed. Record the site's name, the monument ID, description, and date of photo.

Upload to Commons

Upload your images to Wikimedia Commons between 15th - 30th September, 2023. Create an account, if you don't have one already.

Prizes

• 2nd prize: $30

• 3rd prize: $20

• 4th prize: $15

• 5th prize: $10

Consolation prize for 5 contributors

• 6th prize: ₦5000

• 7th prize: ₦5000

• 8th prize: ₦5000

The timeline for the Wiki Loves Monuments in the Igbo Community

• Online launch: 15 September, 2023 05:00 pm (WAT)
• Start for submissions: 16 September, 2023 00:01 (WAT)
• Deadline for submissions: 30 September, 2023 23:59 (WAT)
• Results Declaration: To be declared after assessment

What we won't accept

We won't accept media that are:

• Out of Commons Project scope.
• Which lack EXIF information.
• that are excessively processed and digitally altered.
• Pornographic and explicit images.
• Artwork due to copyright issues, etc.
