English: Tajiks, also spelled Tadzhik, sometimes called (before the 20th century) Sart, are a group of people who speak various dialects of the Persian language and are found mainly in Tajikistan, parts of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan as well as in a smaller part of western China. They are mostly city or town dwellers and are also included among the Afghan refugees living in Iran and Pakistan. According to Encyclopædia Britannica, their total number was approxtimately 12 million in the early 21st century.
