I took slightly early retirement about ten years ago. I had several projects in mind to pursue, one of them being photography. It has been a steep learning curve and very enjoyable. Maybe because I am old, my main interest now is the photography of historic buildings and more especially, the skill of the craftsmen who built them. The artistry contained in most French chateaux, English and French cathedrals and some quite small churches is sometimes breath taking and often overlooked.

I am also interested in land and seascapes, rivers and ports and historic monuments in towns. Canals interest me but again, it is the skill of the people who created these things that I admire.

My wife is very interested in art and handicrafts, much of which is displayed in historic buildings. We have a touring caravan which we used a lot before the pandemic. We have toured quite extensively in England, France, Spain and Wales and when the travel difficulties become more relaxed, will start to travel again. Of course, the lunacy of Brexit doesn't help, but we will overcome.

I have a website where I post my pictures. I now have a "Pro" camera with a range of lenses. I shoot in RAW format then process the files in Camera Raw and Photoshop. Learning to do that has been a steep learning curve which I greatly enjoyed. A bit advantage of that is that I now take a lot more care about my camera settings and framing shots so as to reduce the time I have to spend in post-production. My website is here I have hundreds of shots that I have not yet processed so it might be worth your while, if you are interested, to keep watching. I am uploading photos of historic buildings regularly. (The photo to the right is of the walls of Avignon, the French papal city. The great interest for me isn't just that it is old, it has skill and style. It isn't just a pile of stones.) As of February 2022 I am brand new to Wikimedia so just getting that photo and this page working is my first step to creating what I hope will be intresting for you.
