I have written 89 Wiki articles. I have uploaded many of my own photos, some "fair use" images and sound files. I have had difficulties when I request article's subject to send me a "non-copyrighted" image of them. They assure me they have copyright for the image they provide because it's a picture of them and is in their possession— but then can't tell me who the photographer was. They don't know the difference between owning the photo and owning the copyright. What I'm learning after this repeated frustration is to take the picture myself if at all possible.
