Fortress Chirag-kala (Chirag means a lamp in Azerbaijani) of the 7th century is located in the center of the Gala-alty region, present-day Azerbaijan. Presumably it was a watch-observation structure. The name is probably due to the fact that they warned of the threat with the fires lit on the towers. The fortress was the main part of the Gilgilchay defensive wall. It performed a defensive function until the 18th century (the Cuban Khanate)
