Reliable sources should trump all other criteria on all Wikimedia projects, including Commons. Reliable sources should trump COM:OVERCAT and any other standards, rules and regulations: Reliable sources are the backbone of knowledge, the crux of all Wikimedia projects. Wales is a country and should be included in this category. Category:Countries is not limited to NATO, UN or UNESCO definitions. If the consensus of editors on Commons says that the world is a cuboid, and the academic sources say it's not, then the sources should trump ignorance.

There's an ongoing discussion here: Category talk:Wales, due to the fact that two editors have deleted my edits. No good, reasonable reasons have been given. Their point of view is that there's no consensus regarding the issue; my reasoning is that sources should trump everything else.

Time after time after time in the last few months both prime ministers of the UK and UK Gov Ministers as well as Welsh Government First Minister and Cabinet Ministers, have referred to Wales as either a 'nation' or a 'country'. w:Talk:Wales/Archive country poll on Wales says: Countries of the United Kingdom provides 72 individual reliable sources that directly refer to Wales as a "country" without any qualifying explanation or words like constituent. and that was in 2008; I could list another 72 reliable sources used over the last year, but would be a wast of time, as it's an unquestionable fact that Wales is a country.

We write for readers, not ourselves and we have a duty to those readers in giving them facts.

Wales is also a part of the UK, and that too needs to be in the categories e.g. Category:Pop music groups by country should include both Category:Pop music groups from the United Kingdom and Category:Pop music groups from Wales. To allow one and not the other would be fake news. Can we please settle this once and for all. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 17:32, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Proposals#Add exception to COM:OVERCAT for discussion. Llywelyn2000 (talk) 14:38, 20 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
