Category name[edit]

Moved from Category talk:People of Black African descent in America

Shouldn't this category be "People of Black African descent in the Americas", both to match the existing category structure and to reflect the fact that in English America most commonly refers to the United States (not the two continents, unless one if talking about European explorers in the 1500s) (see en:America). Yes, fine. you may move the category to "~the Americas" if to variate from what I've learnt as a schoolpupil about America being the continent encompassing Alaska, Argentina and everything inbetween them... Orrlingtalk 17:14, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Orrling, I can't speak to what you might have learned in school, but the fact is that America = United States in English. Please see the English Wikipedia. At best, this category is utterly confusing.

It's irrelevant how many weeks have passed since your note above, please do not reintroduce an error by adding this parent category to categories which do not pertain to the United States. The category doesn't become less incorrect or less confusing the more time that passes. The reason I didn't move it is because I think continent categories are generally pointless. I have no objection to them, but I have too much on my plate to be creating them. I'd be happy to delete this error for you if you want, and I am not trying to be difficult, but the creation of a correct category is up to if you feel it necessary. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 15:55, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Once you've insighted a category may be better titled, shared that on here and had no participants objecting the way things work may suggest that within, say, a couple of days you'd carry out your initiative and not opt-back the relevant subcategories to a raw stray-mode rendering this continent parent worthless and broken. Everyone has their lists of priorities but a main thing on Wiki is to generally be in the constant improving and fixing not let components be kept stagnant Orrlingtalk 02:12, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It wasn't my initiative. The problem was solved. Nothing was "broken". You really cannot expect people to go behind you fixing things in the exact manner in which you want it to be done. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 13:40, 20 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
