Scope Nominated as the most valued image on Commons within the scope:
Spøttrup Castle, East wing
Used in Global usage
Reason There is one other photo on Commons, which shows the Eastern (and Northern) wings: File:Spøttrup Borg II.JPG, but in the nominated picture the view is more clean, and of high resolution (26 Mpixels). A scope for the East wing alone is warranted in my opinion, as the castle in itself is one of the few medieval castles still to be found in Denmark, and it is very interesting to study the details of the bricks in all the four facades. Originally, this wing was built between 1525 and 1530 and had large arched windows, which the observant can see clear traces of. After a large tidal wave destroyed the Northern wing in 1534, the large windows were walled up leaving only narrow sighting slits. The castle was badly damaged in the Count's Feud, a civil war in Denmark 1534-36, and part of the castle burned in 1937, leading to a restoration, which was completed 1941. The large number of repairs and restructurings are clearly visible in the brick work. Notice also the rectangular shafts, used for 'toilets' further up. -- Slaunger (talk)
