Emmanuel Tzanes (1610–1690) was a Greek painter born on the island of Crete in the city of Rethymno. He was active during the aftermath of Michael Damaskinos. One hundred thirty of his works survived. Tzanes moved to Venice in the 1650s. Both of his brothers were famous painters. His one brother Konstantinos Tzanes features a large catalog of works. Their other brother Marinos was also a famous poet. Emmanuel became the priest of famous Greek church in Venice known as San Giorgio dei Greci. He remained there for the rest of his life. While the painter was at the church he painted countless works. He is one of the painters that introduced Flemish engravings into the Greek world. Flemish art heavily influenced the Heptanese School. Most of his surviving works are in museums in Greece and Italy.
