English: Wild male red deer checking if a female is ready to mate in the Aletsch Forest Nature Reserve. A male red deer in charge of a herd of females will intensively monitor the different individuals in the herd in preparation for mating, as females can only be impregnated for a period of 24 hours a year. Video recorded by Giles Laurent.
Français : Cerf élaphe mâle sauvage vérifiant si une femelle est prête à s'accoupler dans la réserve naturelle de la forêt d'Aletsch. Un cerf élaphe mâle maître d'un harem de femelles surveille intensivement les différents individus du troupeau en vue de l'accouplement, les femelles ne peuvant être fécondées que pendant une période de 24 heures par année.
Deutsch: Ein männlicher Rothirsch prüft im Naturpark Aletschwald, ob ein Weibchen zur Paarung bereit ist. Ein männlicher Rothirsch, der für ein Rudel weiblicher Tiere verantwortlich ist, überwacht die einzelnen Tiere des Rudels intensiv, um die Paarung vorzubereiten, da die Weibchen nur 24 Stunden im Jahr befruchtet werden können.
Italiano: Cervo selvatico che controlla se una femmina è pronta ad accoppiarsi nella Riserva Naturale della Foresta dell'Aletsch. Un cervo rosso maschio responsabile di un branco di femmine controlla intensamente i diversi individui del branco in preparazione all'accoppiamento, poiché le femmine possono essere ingravidate solo per un periodo di 24 ore all'anno.
