English: A diligent description of the sea coastes of Lyffland with all the isles thereunto appartaing even as they do appeare and open when you sayle there alongst from Ekeholmen unto Syburghsness Bound sheet. Hand coloured engraving. Scale: [circa. 1:400 000 (bar)]. North at 194 degrees. The bar scales are in English, Spanish and Dutch leagues. Additional Places: Estonia. The chart contains three coastal profiles. It is decorated with two ships and two sea creatures. A chart from Anthony Ashley's English edition of 'The Mariners Mirrour'. Lord Howard of Effingham ordered Waghenaer's sea atlas 'De Spieghel der Zeevaerdt' to be translated. It was so popular that 'waggoner' became the English term for a book of charts. |
