Description
日本語: 竹筏（テク．パイ）。西海岸南部の地，新竹以南鵞鑾鼻迄の遠淺の海に，或は大泥沙の河口を溯つて，圖に在る樣な竹の筏がアンペラの帆を揭げ，或は機ぎ合せたボロボロの帆に風一杯孕ませて疾走して行くのを見るのは臺灣での一情景である。長さ六米もある太い蔴竹の兩端を僅に曲げ，幅一間程迄に列べ合せ，籐で卷き結むだのがこの竹筏である。水面とすれすれに走つに行く時，波は遠慮なく此の筏の上を洗ふ。その為に真中へ大きな桶を備へて客にもでなす。吃水の淺いのがこの地方で何より便利がられる譯である。（柯設偕）
