Deutsch: Zwischen 1030 und 1050 wurde die Burg von den Grafen von Urach gebaut und 1239 an die Grafen von Württemberg verpfändet. 1254 wurde die halbe Burg und 1265 die ganze Burg an die Grafen von Württemberg verkauft. Unter Graf Ludwig I von Württemberg fand 1428 eine Erweiterung und ein Umbau der Anlage statt. Nachdem Württemberg durch den Nürtingen Vertrag von 1442 geteilt wurde, baute Ludwig die Burg zur Residenz aus. Heinrich von Württemberg - angeblich geisteskrank - wurde durch Graf Eberhard V auf der Burg bis zu seinem Tode gefangen gehalten. Ab 1540 wurde die Burg zur Festung ausgebaut, aber dann im 30 jährigen Krieg 1635 nach langer Belagerung an die kaiserlichen Truppen übergeben. Bayrische Truppen hielten die Burg von 1641 bis 1649 gesetzt und ließen sie stark verfallen. In den Jahren zwischen 1663 und 1669 wurde die Veste noch einmal instand gesetzt und erweitert. Graf Carl Eugen von Württemberg hielt aber ab 1765 die Festung nicht mehr für zeitgemäß und ließ sie abbrechen. Das Material verwendete er für den Bau seines Schlosses Grafeneck. Die Ruine liegt oberhalb der Stadt Bad Urach in Baden- Württemberg und ist ganzjährig zugänglich.
English: Between 1030 and 1050 the castle was built by the Counts of Urach and 1239 are pledged to the Counts of Württemberg. 1254 was the half of the castle and 1265 the whole castle sold to the Counts of Württemberg. Under Count Ludwig I of Württemberg in 1428 there was an expansion and renovation of the castle. After Württemberg was divided by the Treaty of Nürtingen 1442, Ludwig built the castle as a residence. Heinrich von Württemberg - supposedly insane - was imprisoned from Count Eberhard V in the castle until his death. From 1540 the castle was a fortress, but then during the '30 year war' in 1635 passed after a long siege of the imperial troops. Bavarian troops held the castle from 1641 to 1649 and had put them in serious disrepair. In the years 1663-1669 the fortress was again repaired and expanded. Count Carl Eugen of Württemberg in 1765 but held the fort for no more contemporary and break them away. The material he used for the construction of his residence Grafeneck.
