Notes
  • Significance: Building A-J is a contributing element of the Mare Island Historic District. Building A-J is a minor contributor to the historical setting for the "Captains' Row" residential complex along Walnut Avenue at Mare Island. Several dozen small buildings exist behind the 12 residences along the row, with a different set of secondary buildings for each. The differences between and among these outbuildings is indicative of the authority granted to the ranking officers; through the years, individual residents of the various homes requested and were given outbuildings that matched their individualized needs. Building A-J is a greenhouse located at Quarters A, which was the residence of the Shipyard Commandant (Commander).
  • Survey number: HABS CA-1543-AQ
