Building E-D is a minor contributor to the historical setting for the "Captains' Row" residential complex along Walnut Avenue at Mare Island. The servants' quarters behind Captains' Row illustrate the lifestyle of ranking officers at Mare Island during the early 20th century as well as that of their servants.
