Description
English: Lt. Michael "Pony Boy" Apone, from Holbrook, N.Y., completes combat systems checks before take-off in an F/A-18C Hornet. Apone is a student in the Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor course at the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center at Navy Fighter Weapons School. Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center is the custodian of 44 aircraft, including F/A-18 Alpha and Charlie Hornet variants, F/A-18F Super Hornets, F-16 Alfa and Bravo Viper variants, H-60S Sea Hawk helicopters and E2-C Hawkeye aircraft. CVW-8 is nearing the completion of air wing training before their deployment aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt.
