English: Title: Confer with President Roosevelt. Washington, D.C., May 17. Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins and Dr. John R. Steelman, Chief of the mediation service, leaving the White House today after a conference with President Roosevelt. Secretary Perkins insisted that the Harlan, Kentucky, situation was not discussed at the meeting. She did announce at the same time, however, that John L. Connor of the Department of Labor Conciliation Service, had been ordered to Harlan County in an effort to assist settlement of the struggle between the United Mine Workers and Harlan operators
