Deutsch: Die Kirche wurde von 1726 bis 1743 nach einem Plan von George Bähr erbaut. Sie gilt als einer der wichtigsten protestantischen Sakralbauten des Barocks. Zwar wurde sie nicht in den Bombennächte Dresdens von einer Bombe getroffen, doch sie fing in den darauf folgenden Feuerstürmen selbst Feuer, brannte vollkommen aus und stürzte in sich zusammen. Zwischen 1994 und 2005 wurde sie wieder aufgebaut und am 30.10.2005 feierlich mit einem Weihegottesdienst wiedereröffnet.
Das in den Trümmern der Ruine gefunden Turmkreuz wurde im Innenraum der Kirche als Mahnmal aufgestellt. Das Turmkreuz, welches sich jetzt auf der Kuppel befindet, wurde von britischen Volk und vom Königshaus Großbritanniens gestiffte. Gefertigt wurde es von dem Sohn eines der Piloten die Dresden zerstörten. Es soll Brücken bauen, Versöhnung stiften und den Glauben stärken.English: The church was built from 1726 to 1743 according to a plan by George Bähr. The tower cross, found in the ruins, was erected inside the church as a Memorial.
