Summary[edit]

Author
Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton
Description
English: E H Shackleton at the wheel of Discovery (1901)

E H Shackleton standing by wheel of the 'Discovery' (1901), with his right arm casually resting over the top. He is looking to the left middle distance. He is wearing a large brimmed hat, scarf and thick buttoned coat. The photographer is standing on the port side near the mizzen mast looking aft. It is unclear if this photograph is while the ship is underway. It is equally possible that the photograph was taken during daylight hours after the 'Discovery' had been settled into winter quarters.
