The rock is l)lastc(l towards the boxholes, so as to diminishshovelling as much as possible, ihe pillars can afterwards be robbed.Drives are cither protected by leaving a strip of the reef, as before in-dicated, or by putting in stulls and lagging. Including shovelling, the average cost of stoping 12,000 tons forthe month of September at the Simmer iV jack Proprietary Mines,Ivimited, was 6.8 shillings per ton milled, including all supi)lies.
