Description

This thesis presents a research study of configurations for installation of graphical user interface and software applications on a local area network. Requirements for a graphical user interface on a local area network are discussed, specifically the Systems Management Department laboratories at Naval Postgraduate School. Compatibility and interoperability of network operating system, PC operating system and network hardware are considered. The research includes a review of graphical user interfaces and current operating systems. Actual system configuration experimentation is reported using various combinations of graphical user interface and application programs on the network. The conclusions presented are based on results of research and experimentation performed, with consideration given to network management issues.
