Description
Deutsch: Südwestansicht der Heiligenstädter Kirche St. Jakob im 19. Wiener Gemeindebezirk Döbling.
Die einschiffige Kirche ist eine der ältesten Wiens. Sie wurde über Resten eines römischen Gebäudes errichtet und ist teilweise noch in ihrer ursprünglich Form erhalten. Um 1100 erfolgte ein rechteckiger Choranbau (mit einem Achsknick nach links) und im 12. Jahrhundert erweiterte man das Langhaus Richtung Westen. Diese Form bildet den Kern der heutigen Jakobskirche, die 1256 bereits urkundlich erwähnt wurde. Die Außenmauern der Kirche (unverputzte Bruch- und Bachsteine) zeigen noch romanische Formen, jedoch das Innere wurde barockisiert.
