  • Significance: In 1871 a proposal was made by the U.S. Lighthouse Board to build a "small light, say a fourth order" about 11 miles north of the Cape May Light. The Hereford Station was completed in 1874. The station was the major building of a group that included a boathouse, oil house, barn, privy, storehouse, and a lifesaving station #36, all of the outbuildings around the lighthouse are now gone...
