SCNHRB c. 2 of t. 3 is imperfect: plates 135, 151, 154, and some related text pages are wanting. The original printed paper cover from the back of fasc. 7 is bound in after plate 11; a typed translation of part of Atherina hepsetus is laid in
SCNHRB c. 2 has a separate portfolio with 4 folded "class tables" for I. Mammalia (double leaf); II. Aves (quadruple leaf); III. Amphibia (double leaf) and IV. Pisces (quadruple leaf). Each class table has a running footer printed at the bottom that reads "Icon. Faun. Ital. Caroli L. Bonaparte." These class tables are not mentioned in the bibliographical sources consulted and may be a supplemental part issued with only a few copies of the work. The class tables are in an old portfolio of gilt-tooled green half-morocco with marbled paper boards and a handwritten label pasted on the front. The class tables have a few handwritten notes in pencil, and are stamped: U.S. National Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Mar. 30, 1882; accession no.: 124883. The tables also have a red ink stamp for S.F. Baird
