Summary[edit]

Description These 130 foot falls are known as the Niagara of the North. Kakabeka in Ojibway means "Thundering Falls" and is found just outside of Thunder Bay. The gorge was formed 8000 years ago in the Precambrian age by melting glaciers. This year the Kaministiquia River is overflowing, and currently the local Fort Williams historical park is under water. Part of the walkway around the falls was closed off as the roiling water is pounding the wood rails. The park also features trails which reconstruct the canoe portage route of the voyageurs of the fur trade.
